From April 15 to 22, Steam hosts the first—person shooter festival - Steam FPS Fest. As part of the festival, users can try out demo versions of upcoming projects in the genre, and Valve has also prepared a portion of discounts for already released games. Here is a selection of unusual shooters that you might have missed — all of them are now on sale at a good discount.

Neon White

Neon White is an extremely dynamic and stylish action platformer that inherits ideas from the "DeFRaG" modification for Quake 3:Arena. Your task in the game is to complete various levels at speed, simultaneously destroying opponents. They are not very long — the passage of some levels takes literally tens of seconds. The hero does not have any outstanding abilities because the mechanics are based on interaction with weapons, which are presented in the form of cards. 

Dropping weapons from the "deck," you get various effects in the form of an additional jump, acceleration jerk, etc. At the same time, the game pays great attention to the story campaign, presented in the form of a visual novel. Many called Neon White one of the best games of 2022, but it failed to attract the attention of a mass audience. 

High on Life: DLC Bundle

The studio Squanch Games was created by Justin Roiland, who gave the world the animated series "Rick and Morty", and the game inevitably has the spirit of adventure from his previous work. The alien invaders decided that humans are an excellent substitute for tobacco and decided to "smoke" all of humanity. The main character has a mission to save civilization from invaders, and a talking weapon is designed to help with this, making jokes of various levels of "sortiness" in Morty's voice — Royland himself was engaged in voice acting.

This is a very simple comedy adventure that can captivate for a dozen hours, but in many aspects, it feels like the project is a bit damp, and the humor often does not even reach the level of "Rick and Morty." As part of the current sale, the most profitable set is a set from the main game + the High on Knife add-on, which is a continuation of the original company. 

Severed Steel

It is an indie shooter that will make you move. What happens if you mix mechanics from Mirror's Edge, Ghostrunner, and Max Payne in one pot? Severed Steel. It is an extremely dynamic action movie in which you need to perform various tricks, slide, run along walls, and all this under the effect of time dilation. Our heroine is a one-armed woman who imposes certain restrictions because she cannot reload her weapon. Therefore, as soon as you run out of ammo, grab the next gun and chop up enemies at a furious pace. 

The game is not too long and is played literally in one go. But if it doesn't seem enough to you, the game has a "roguelike" mode, the function of adding your own music to shoot opponents to your favorite compositions, and, of course, a custom-level editor. 

Forgive me Father

A distinctive feature of Forgive Me Father is the stylized graphics made in the spirit of Dark Hour comics — and all this with an atmosphere and enemies inspired by the work of Howard F. Lovecraft.

There are two protagonists to choose from — a preacher and a journalist with their own style of play and abilities. The mechanics of "madness", often used in projects inspired by Lovecraft's work, is the reward for killing enemies. The faster you deal with enemies, the less damage you get and the more you inflict, but the crazier you are, the more difficult it is to navigate in space. And your excitement is fueled by cheerful metal, which replaces the leisurely ambient in the most tense moments.

The sequel, Forgive Me Father 2, is currently in early access. It received its first content update in early April and is now also being sold at a discount. 

Screencheat

If you are looking for something unique to pass the evening in a cooperative game with friends, then your choice is Screencheat - a shooter designed for cooperative battles of up to 4 players, where all the characters are invisible. Your task is to spy on the screen of your opponents, as well as use indirect signs, such as smoke from a shot, to track down and eliminate your opponents. Several game modes will allow you to have fun with your friends, and this pleasure will cost only a "hundredth."
